At Journey to Away, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and inspiring the next generation to take action for a cleaner, healthier planet. As a children’s book about waste and sustainability, we believe it is critical that our process aligns with our message. Below is our commitment to sustainability across our operations.

1. Eco-Friendly Publishing

• Print-on-Demand: To minimize waste, all copies of Journey to Away are printed on demand. This ensures only the necessary number of books are produced, avoiding excess inventory and conserving natural resources.

• FSC-Certified Paper: Our books are printed on FSC-certified paper sourced from responsibly managed forests. This helps protect biodiversity, promote sustainable forestry, and uphold ethical environmental standards.

• Digital Access: To provide paper-free options, Journey to Away will also soon be available in e-book and audiobook formats to increase accessibility while reducing our environmental impact.

2. Responsible Packaging & Shipping

• Carbon-Offset Shipping: We partner with Tomorrows Air carbon-offset programs to reduce the environmental impact of transporting our books. For every book shipped, we invest in environmental projects that restore ecosystems and cut emissions.

• Minimal & Recyclable Packaging: We aim to use minimal, plastic-free packaging that is either recyclable or compostable wherever possible.

3. Ethical & Sustainable Production

• Merchandise: Our merchandise, if offered, is always sourced from ethical brands committed to sustainable production.

• Fair Trade: We prioritize fair labor practices and ethical working conditions in all aspects of our supply chain.

4. Education & Community Engagement

• Free Resources: We offer free downloadable educational resources for marginalized communities to help families, schools, and organizations in need reduce their waste.

• Curriculum Integration: Our curriculum is designed with sustainability at its core, empowering young learners to make a positive impact.

• Collaboration with Changemakers: We actively collaborate with environmental organizations to amplify awareness and action on waste reduction on the ground.

5. Waste Reduction & Circular Economy

• “Pass It On” Library Card: Every book features a “Pass It On” library card, inviting readers to share, donate, or resell the book after reading. This helps extend its lifecycle and reduces waste.

• Reuse & Donation: We encourage book swaps, secondhand sales, and school donations as part of our commitment to a circular economy.

7. Action and Impact

• Trash Tracker Tool(see below): Inspired by the story, readers can use our Trash Tracker to log and share their personal or group cleanup efforts. This turns awareness into action and gives visibility to the collective impact of our community!
